Planning a romantic evening is not a chore. In fact, it should be almost as much fun as the evening itself. But just to take some of the work out of it for all of you would-be romancers, here are four ideas for romantic dates.

Think about your date. What does he or she like? Is it a romantic dinner with wine and candles in a fine restaurant. Would your date like you to dress up in evening clothes, and meet her or him with a little gift and maybe a bouquet of flowers?

Or is your date the kind of person who would prefer a homemade or takeout dinner at your apartment which you will serve wearing your best lingerie or boxers with romantic music playing in the background?

The key to this date is THOUGHTFULLNESS. You thought about your date and what would be special to them.
Plan something spontaneous. Okay, so the words “plan” and “spontaneous” don’t always go together…..in this case they do. Have a general idea and go through with it. Send your date a romantic email or hand deliver a glittery invitation Saturday afternoon and tell him or her to pack a bag for 1) a beach date 2) a city date 3) a hot evening date or 4) all of the above. PLAN to take your date to an undisclosed location that involves either a nice car or airline tickets and the keys to a luxury hotel suite. You had to plan. It was spontaneous for your date.

The key to this date is that you cared enough to plan to be SPONTANEOUS!
How about a late night swim? No, not in your pool unless there’s no place better! Wear something you can get out of quickly because you’re not going to need it for long. Pack a romantic picnic – don’t forget the bottle of wine – and maybe some chocolate dipped strawberries, some bread and cheese, and his or her favorite sweet. Think ahead about someplace you can go skinny dipping. And then pick up your date and go! Take a late night swim, have something to eat, hold hands and gaze at the stars.

The key to this date is that it’s NAUGHTY. If naughty isn’t romantic you’re not dating the right person!
Plan something that neither of you have ever done before. How about going to the opera? Have you seen the opera scene in “Pretty Woman”? Yes, it can be very romantic. There’s something special about the opera. First of all, you need to look your best – here’s another evening wear opportunity. Secondly, you can hold hands during the whole opera! Operas are inherently dramatic. They make you laugh, they make you cry, they make your date snuggle up. Go out to a lovely dinner in a romantic bistro later on.

The key to this date is that it’s something DIFFERENT yet romantic.

Put on your thinking cap for your next romantic date. There are so many wonderful things to do “besides dinner and a movie.” And your partner will surely appreciate your efforts!
